The Golden Age of the Passenger Train: From Steam to Diesel and Beyond
Published in Hardcover by Metro Books (June, 1997)
Author: C. J. Riley
Average review score:

A Must Have Book for Lovers of Passenger Trains!
This book is loaded with information about the golden era of passenger trains. Lots of large color photos of the great trains. This is certainly my favorite book about passenger trains!

Beautifully done, a "must" for the railfan
This is a beautiful history of passenger railroads. The photographs are beautiful, but this is far more than a "coffee-table" book--the text is rich, fascinating and well-researched. Many boxes and sidebars add interesting side notes. If there were a college course on "Golden Age of Passenger Trains 101," this would be the textbook. Definitely one of my favorite train books of all time--and I have plenty!

When she wins the lottery, she finds she now has the means to see the world while insuring for the proper care of Harriet. However, she reconsiders her wishes when an injured Russ Foster returns to town. All she wants for Christmas is Russ, but fears he does not reciprocate her love.

"Christmas, Texas Style." Ezra Honeycutt and Jasper Becker decide their grandchildren belong together. The two victims have never met. Additionally, Winnie Becker lives in Boston while Trace Honeycutt wants to be left alone on his Texas ranch after a failed marriage. To the senior citizens, neither situation is much of a problem. The two residents of the Rest Easy Retirement Ranch begin matchmaking, Christmas style.

DUETS 15 consists of two humorous Yuletide romances that center on the impact of an elderly relative(s) on a new relationship. Both story lines are entertaining and would make a wonderful stocking stuffer for fans of contemporary romances. Lori Copeland and Kimberly Raye live up to the Duets reputation for two enchanting tales.

Kimberly Raye's book is hilarious!!
I love a humorous romance, and Kimberly Raye's is one of the funniest I've read in years! Good sexual tension, too. Her characterizations are excellent, and most particularly, she has a very strong ability to give each character a totally distinctive voice--a rare quality and a great talent.

The Irish File: Images from a Land of Grace
Published in Hardcover by Rizzoli (March, 2002)
Authors: Jon Michael Riley and Nuala O'Faolain
Average review score:

Absolutely Beautiful!
The Irish File is the strikingly beautiful photographic works of Jon Michael Riley. Riley lives in North Carolina has done award winning works for numerous magazines and other publications. On his journey to the Emerald Isle, Riley incorporate in his photos a conjoining of dramatic elements.

The photographs are so absolutely beautiful it gives the viewer a sense of a Victorian era painting. The artist gives you the feeling of haunting sounds of music and gentle breezes. The sounds so lovely and celestial like an ethereal song-as he describes his visit in Co. Kerry at the gate entrance of St. Senan's Holy Well. The place inspires the spirit of the breezes tumbling about the metal pipes of the gate [on the front cover]. It's looking at the land with a sense of grace and prefection. Not seeing it as a picture postcard snapshot. Like a scene out of a cinema graphic still with soft overtones. He gives his images a vintage look yet bringing out the realness of their simplicity.

Nuala O'Faolain's author of 'Are You Somebody: The Accidental Memoir of a Dublin Woman', poetic words in the introduction expresses the photogrpher's broader ego to the spirit of the place. This would make a beautiful coffee table book for lovers of breathtaking photography and those who want to reminisce their travels to Ireland.

Stunning photography!
If you want to know the soul of Ireland then sit in a quiet spot with "The Irish File" and let the images show you an Ireland you probably never knew. As a photographer I am not easily impressed with "photography" books but Jon Riley's images in his book are absolutely stunning! Well done Jon and thank you!

Island Adventure was just like our trip to Block Island!
The author could have been a member of our traveling party on our very first trip to Block Island. The story is delightful to read, the illustrations are beautiful, and the content is so true! What a wonderful find and a wonderful island.

London After Midnight
Published in Hardcover by Cornwall Books (July, 1985)
Authors: Philip J. Riley and Tod Browning
Average review score:

A monumental under-taking to film & Chaney fan delight
This is a must have for Chaney & Horror film fans! This undertaking must have been a ton of work & a ton of hours to put together but it is a perfect reconstruction of a film that to this date has not surfaced & its only copy may have perished in MGM's vault 7 fire. You also must also acquire a copy of The Marie Collidge-Rask novel (long out of print). Together they make the experiance as close to seeing the film as you & I may ever find.

An exquisite reconstruction
Neither Phillip J. Riley nor anyone else has ever found a copy of the legendary lost Lon Chaney reputed masterpiece, London After Midnight. But Riley found the hat Chaney wore, and enough stills to make the lost film come alive.

Mayan Gold: A Jack Riley Adventure
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (March, 2002)
Author: Bill Craig
Average review score:

Sexier than ever!
Mayan Gold is Bill Craig's sexiest book yet! The love scenes are so steamy I needed a cold shower after reading them! The action is also well written and the characters intriguing. I can't wait to see what happens to Jack and Moria and Ken and Julie in his next book! Please tell me he's going to write a third one?

An escape to adventure!
Mayan Gold is a great follow up to Bill Craig's fisrt Novel Valley of Death. It expands on the characters of Jack Riley, Moria Clark and Ken Alston and introduces a new continuing character In Dr. Julie Carr. The action is intense and the pace is incredible. It's a great way to escape into an well written and exotic adventure for a few hours to get away from theworries and cares of the world we live in. The Jack Riley novels give us black and white characters where the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. It's almost a return to a simpler and more well-ordered world. The characters are realistic and fun, the plost is fast paced and exciting. Mayan Gold is a fantastic read and a novel you won't put down until you finish it!

Review by Medical Student
Dr. Wong-Riley is a Neuroscienc professor at my school. This book is simply a must have for any medical student. It easily explains topics and presents information you will find useful in class and clinic, not just for the boards. I highly recommend it to any medical student looking for a book to explain neuroscience topics in an easy to understand manner.

An extremely thorough neuroscience review
This book covers almost every aspect of neuroscience, in a thorough manner. It is written in a sophisticated style, but presents a wealth of material in a way that is both thorough and promotes understanding of concepts. You will not be left ignorant of much!

Our Family Meeting Book: Fun and Easy Ways to Manage Time, Build Communication, and Share Responsibility Week by Week
Published in Paperback by Free Spirit Publishing (September, 2002)
Authors: Elaine Hightower, Betsy Riley, and Michele Borba
Average review score:

Fantastic Resource for Families
I love the ideas in this book. In addition to giving a format for family meetings, it also gives the reader very value-oriented topics to discuss during the meetings. It is a great tool for any family who wants to start these kind of meetings and it is equally as helpful to those already having these meetings (like my family). Great ideas!

MAKES SENSE FOR REAL FAMILIES!
This book actually explains what a family meeting is, why it's important, and how to do it. In magazine articles, on talk shows, every expert talks about family meetings, but no one explains what it takes to hold one and how can a real-life family can find the time. The authors are two moms who actually hold weekly family meetings-with their own kids and teens! They explain everything and include weekly agendas-which you can use as is, or modify. The book itself is coloful, with lots of pictures and space to keep track of what kids and parents have decided or agreed to. Really, this makes keeping in touch pretty easy-even about the difficult stuff. For example, the authors suggest handing out allowances after the meeting, or scheduling the meeting just before a favorite TV show-to help keep everyone alert and on schedule. The book is friendly and easy-to-use. I'm a convert!

Ozzie Owl: Believe, Achieve & Succeed
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (November, 2002)
Author: Walter Riley
Average review score:

A Book For All Teens!
Ozzie is a hip talking owl, who was kidnapped from Africa and brought to America. He's on his way to the zoo when he meets Devin West, a 14 year old sax player with a golden voice. The two of them make a deal. Ozzie promise to help Devin and his multi-racial band get a record deal, if Devin helps him get back to Africa. In the process, Ozzie teaches the band, 12 valuable principles that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. I highly recommend this book to all teens with high goals and want to know how to achieve them.

Full of Fun & Wisdom
I thought the story about this talking owl helping out a 14 year old boy and his band was funny and entertaining. The way he talks, and the relationship between a father and son was terrific. What really got me hooked was the "12 Keys To Success." Ozzie breaks them down one by one in the final chapter. This 12 principles are tools that will stay with me for a lifetime! I also recommend this to all kids with dreams and want to know how to achieve them.
